July 19th and July 20th, 2008 Moxie Plays a Big Part in Union's Founders Day Celebration This date marks the felling of the first tree to begin the settlement in Union, 234 years ago. The committee has been planning the celebration with activities and Moxie for folks of all ages. To start the Founders' Day weekend on Friday evening, July 18, the Union Area Chamber of Commerce (UACOC) will sponsor live music on the Common and a Pie Social. Music will be played at the town's recently renovated 1895 Band Stand. Bring a pie to share, if you like. Come help out the UACOC Scholarship Fund and buy hamburgers, hotdogs and drinks, including Moxie; which Governor Baldacci recently declared as "Maine's Official Soft Drink" - invented by a Union native, Augustin Thompson. |
