Our Mission
The Matthews Museum of Maine Heritage has as its purpose the presentation of interesting programs
and exhibits for the education of the public and preservation of
antiquities relating to the history of Maine culture since colonial
times.
The Museum is located in the Union Fairgrounds, on
Common Road in Union,
Maine. The Museum is open from July through August.
Referred to as "the area's best-kept secret", the Museum has been acclaimed as one of New England's finest
museums with something of interest for everyone . The Museum
houses over 10,000 artifacts covering lifestyles in the 18th century, including carriages, agricultural tools,
musical instruments, books, collections of photo prints and a research
library.
It also houses a sizeable collection of
Moxie memorabilia,
occupying, among other things, the new annex, at the west end of the
museum.

c3 entity, continue its important work of
presenting and preserving Maine history and heritage; educating the
public by making available an outstanding collection of artifacts;
making known the history of rural Maine; and ensuring the continuation
of our efforts. Sign up a new member today!
Our
year ends on October 31st and payments for membership renewals are
encouraged by November 30. New members joining from May 1st to October
31st will receive an additional full year of membership. All members
will receive timely ‘Museum Musings’ newsletters either by email
(preferred) or US Mail. Address labels will contain a two digit date
code indicating the status of your membership expiration. Sending
renewal payments prior to a dues notice, will save your museum valuable
costs. Please help us save. If there is an '13 on
your address label you have paid your dues! Otherwise, your dues are
due.
